WHAT ARE THE MINISTRY WORK SITES?
Camp RHINO partners with local non-profit organizations who offer a variety of kinds of service work, from construction and home repairs, to gardening, to sorting donations, to preparing food and feeding the hungry. In planning your trip with us we can place your group at one service site the whole week or arrange for your group to experience a variety of service sites during your week.
Our service partners include:
- Habitat for Humanity
- Rebuilding Together
- Second Harvest Food Bank
- The New Orleans Mission (homeless shelter)
- Okra Abbey Community Garden
- Berean Presbyterian Church Community Center
- Junior League of New Orleans Diaper Bank
- Louisiana Just Recovery Network
Please discuss your preference for construction or non-construction projects with the RHINO staff when you book your trip. We'll try our best to accommodate your preference, but please also plan to be flexible!
WHAT DOES RHINO COST?
Camp RHINO charges $480 per participant. This includes housing, meals, volunteer costs, a t-shirt, and administration fees. Please note, that groups paying online via paypal will be subject to a 3% processing fee. Checks may be made out to SCAPC, and mailed St. Charles Ave Presbyterian Church, 1545 State St, New Orleans, 70118
WHAT IS THE WEEKLY AND DAILY SCHEDULE?
RHINO abides by the work hard, play hard philosophy Monday evening through Friday evening. Groups have breakfast together at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian, then depart for volunteer work sites. They eat a sack lunch on site. After the workday ends, there are a couple hours free time before evening program and dinner at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian. Groups will also have the opportunity to meet as home church group following dinner.
MONDAY

TUESDAY-FRIDAY

WHERE DO WE STAY?
WHEN DO WE ARRIVE AND DEPART?
Typically, groups drive or fly in on Monday and check-in at the hotel before orientation and dinner on Monday evening. Groups can choose to depart for home on Saturday, or they can have a "fun day" in the city and depart on Sunday. Groups may also choose to arrive on Sunday before their week begins and have most of the day Monday as your “fun day” in the city. We have many resources and suggestions on how you can make the most of your free time here in New Orleans.
IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT?
Camp RHINO welcomes all youth ages 14+. Groups must have one adult chaperone for every five campers. For construction related service, youth must be ages 14 and up to comply with their insurance policies. We do partner with several additional nonprofits that will work with youth ages 14 and up. Adults are expected to participate and act as chaperones during all meals, work site activities, and evening activities.
DOES CAMP RHINO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION?
All Camp RHINO groups are expected to provide their own transportation. Groups are advised to rent 15 passenger or minivans during their trip. Large charter buses have a difficult time navigating the narrow streets and large live oaks of New Orleans. If you will be traveling with a bus, please let RHINO staff know in the planning process.
